Flávio Bolsonaro files written defense in defamation probe, widening Lula's lead

Senator Flávio Bolsonaro, a pre‑presidential candidate, declined to appear before the Federal Police in a Supreme Court investigation into alleged defamation of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva. He submitted a written clarification to the Court, denying any criminal intent and insisting his comments referred to Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro, not Lula. The probe is being overseen by Supreme Court minister Alexandre de Moraes.

Political analysts note that Bolsonaro’s legal troubles and the “Dark Horse” scandal have eroded his campaign momentum, allowing Lula to maintain a modest advantage in pre‑election polls, including a lead in the Datafolha survey, particularly in Brazil’s Southeast region.
