Flávio Bolsonaro proposes using Treasury funds to settle consumer debts

Flávio Bolsonaro, the presidential candidate for the PL party, has introduced the ‘SOS Brasil’ project, which proposes using Treasury resources to purchase individual debts from banks. The initiative aims to reduce household indebtedness and the government's gross debt by renegotiating payments with lower interest rates than those currently offered by the market.

To fund the program, Bolsonaro suggests utilizing new revenue sources, including the exploitation of federal real estate assets, the redistribution of oil royalties, and the securitization of Union debts. The plan includes a grace period of six months for individuals and twelve months for micro-entrepreneurs. This proposal serves as an alternative to the federal government's ‘Desenrola’ program, though it has been noted as a departure from the liberal economic views typically held by his party's economic team due to its emphasis on increased state intervention.
