Flávio Bolsonaro's 2026 Presidential Bid Meets Alliance Talks and Party Neutrality

Political analysts note that Flávio Bolsonaro, son of former president Jair Bolsonaro, is now polling closer to incumbent President Lula for the 2026 election than his father did in 2022. Recent polling shows Lula at 45‑46% and Flávio at 41‑43%, narrowing the gap to about three points.

Flávio’s campaign is struggling to secure alliances. The Republicanos party, led by Marcos Pereira, has demanded reciprocity from the Liberal Party (PL) – support for its gubernatorial candidates in six states in exchange for national backing of Flávio’s presidential run. Negotiations are slated to conclude by 1 August, before the Republicanos convention.

The centrão bloc (Progressistas, União Brasil and others) has adopted a neutral stance, leaving Flávio without the traditional bloc support and pushing him toward a “pure PL” ticket with no coalition partners. The PP’s Ciro Nogueira publicly rejected an alliance, and former allies such as senator Tereza Cristina also declined vice‑presidential offers.

Regional figures, including Goiás councilor Igor Franco and other right‑wing leaders, have voiced public support for Flávio’s candidacy, while investigations into the financing of the “Dark Horse” film about Jair Bolsonaro have added controversy. A poll in Amapá shows Lula leading in the first round but a tight second‑round race, with Flávio barely ahead of Lula within the margin of error.
