Dark Horse film financing under investigation by Federal Police

Investigations are intensifying into the financing of the film ‘Dark Horse’, a production about former President Jair Bolsonaro. A private audit commissioned by the production company, Go Up Entertainment, reports that the total cost of the film is approximately R$ 75.2 million, with 72% of the expenses (over R$ 54 million) incurred in the United States. The audit states that 100% of the funding originated from the Texas-based Havengate Development Fund LP, which received approximately R$ 61 million from banker Daniel Vorcaro.

Federal Police have been authorized by Supreme Court Minister Flávio Dino to access evidence from the São Paulo Civil Police investigation. The probe is examining whether the film received irregular public funds or parliamentary amendments. While the audit claims no public money was used and found no transfers between the film and the Instituto Conhecer Brasil, the Federal Police continue to investigate the origin and destination of the resources.

The case has sparked a political confrontation. Governor Tarcísio de Freitas has stated that the explanations provided by Senator Flávio Bolsonaro are sufficient unless new facts emerge. Conversely, Fernando Haddad has accused the Governor of attempting to suppress the investigation, arguing that the financial details remain unexplained.
