Flávio Bolsonaro supporters mock Marielle Franco in Rio protest

Supporters of presidential candidate Flávio Bolsonaro held a demonstration near the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro (PUC-Rio) where they mocked the 2018 assassination of councilwoman Marielle Franco. During the protest, which occurred a day after the university banned political demonstrations on campus, individuals used a sound truck to make disparaging remarks about Franco’s death.

Luyara Franco, the daughter of the late councilwoman, condemned the actions on social media, stating that mocking the murder is “political violence” rather than freedom of expression. Anielle Franco, a federal deputy and sister of Marielle, also expressed support for students involved in the political tensions at the university.

Separately, Flávio Bolsonaro attended a mass at the Brasília Cathedral. Following the service, he noted that the Supreme Federal Court (STF) has granted him authorization to resume regular visits to his father, Jair Bolsonaro, who is currently under house arrest due to health issues following a conviction related to an attempted coup. Flávio remains prohibited from using these visits for political campaigning or disclosing manifestos from his father.
