Brazil's Republicanos Party Rejects Support for Flávio Bolsonaro

The Republicanos party issued a nationwide note on 12 July 2026 stating that it has not reached any agreement to back Senator Flávio Bolsonaro’s pre‑candidacy for the 2026 presidential election. The party also denied any negotiation to trade such support for a Supreme Court (STF) appointment for its national president, Marcos Pereira. Internal consultations and an unpublished poll showed a “sense of frustration” among party bases regarding Flávio’s candidacy and a preference for a neutral stance. The statement confirmed that support for President Luiz Inácio Lula is completely ruled out and that the final decision on the party’s position will be taken at the national convention in Brasília. Earlier reports that the party might have conditioned its backing on the vacancy left by Justice Luiz Fux were rejected as “absolutely false.” Other right‑wing parties, such as União Brasil and the PP, have already declared zero chance of supporting Flávio Bolsonaro.
