Flávio Dino death threats trigger STF order for Federal Police investigation

Supreme Federal Court (STF) President Edson Fachin has ordered the Federal Police to investigate thousands of death threats directed at Minister Flávio Dino and other members of the court. The decision follows the release of a security report by the STF Judicial Police detailing violent messages posted on social media, particularly on the platform X.

Minister Dino reported that the threats include mentions of execution by firing squad, hanging, and dismemberment. The messages also targeted ministers Alexandre de Moraes, Cristiano Zanin, Gilmar Mendes, and Dias Toffoli. Dino attributed the surge in hostility to the widespread dissemination of false information and incitement to violence.

Despite the intimidation, Dino stated that the threats would not alter his professional conduct or judicial independence, warning that if judges fear making decisions due to personal risk, the judiciary and the Constitution are compromised. The STF has confirmed it is working with security and intelligence agencies to ensure the physical integrity of its members.
