Fly infestation in Congleton’s West Heath sparks resident petition

Residents of West Heath, a suburb of Congleton in Cheshire, have been battling severe summer swarms of flies that invade homes and kitchens. Francesca Davies, a contact‑centre worker, and her husband Alex Andrew, a maintenance engineer, describe nightly battles with the insects, using industrial fly‑killers and protective netting. The problem has led some neighbours to order takeaways daily or move elsewhere, while others, like the Davies family, remain committed to their home.

In response, the couple launched an online petition that has gathered more than 1,000 signatures, urging the local council and the Environment Agency to investigate the cause and take action to protect the community’s wellbeing.
