Flying Blue to restructure award pricing and fare tiers

Flying Blue is implementing changes to its award pricing structure for Air France and KLM-operated flights, effective September 8, 2026. The update introduces three distinct award fare tiers: Light, Standard, and Flex.

The new “Light” fare will serve as the lowest-priced option but will come with significant restrictions, including no permitted changes or refunds. In Economy and Premium Economy, Light fares will exclude checked baggage. In Business Class, baggage is reduced to one 32 kg item, and lounge access will be removed.

To access more flexibility, travelers can opt for “Standard” or “Flex” awards by paying additional miles. Standard awards are expected to cost approximately 25% to 30% more than Light fares, while Flex awards—which allow for free changes and refunds—will carry a higher mileage premium, though often with reduced cash components.

These changes apply specifically to Air France and KLM flights; partner awards from other airlines remain unaffected. Elite status holders, such as Flying Blue Platinum members, may be able to bypass certain Light fare restrictions.
