Flying Tigers 85th Anniversary exhibition opens in Taipei
The Songtao Society has launched a special exhibition titled ‘The Last Minute: 85th Anniversary of the Flying Tigers’ at the Jiantan Youth Activity Center in Taipei. The exhibition, which runs until October 17, commemorates the 85th anniversary of the American Volunteer Group (AVG), also known as the Flying Tigers, who fought alongside the Republic of China's forces during the Second Sino-Japanese War.
The collection features over 40 historical artifacts, including the deputy commander’s office doorplate from the Yunnan Kunming camp, hand-sewn blood patches from American members, and the 1938 appointment document naming Soong Mei-ling as Secretary-General of the Aviation Commission. Other items include a 1940 telegram draft regarding the formation of the volunteer group and hand-drawn posters from a 1942 photography exhibition.
Attendees at the opening ceremony included former defense and diplomatic officials, as well as Claire Chang, who emphasized the importance of maintaining a complete historical context of the Republic of China's role in the war for younger generations. Organizers highlighted the historical significance of the cooperation between the United States and the Republic of China during the conflict.
