Flynn Southam targets world record at Australian championships

Australian swimmer Flynn Southam is targeting the 100m freestyle short course world record and a gold medal at the 2028 LA Olympics. Competing at the national short course championships in Sydney, the 21-year-old aims to build on his recent success, which included becoming the first Australian to defeat Kyle Chalmers in a 100m race at a major international event.

Southam will compete in the 50m, 100m, and 200m races, with the meet serving as selection trials for the upcoming world short course championships in Beijing. Other notable Australian swimmers, including Mollie O'Callaghan and Cam McEvoy, are absent from the Sydney event.

Fellow breakout star Lani Pallister is also returning to competition following her recent victory over US champion Katie Ledecky in the 800m race in California.
