Flytrex expands drone food delivery in Dallas-Fort Worth

Drone food delivery services are expanding across the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex in Texas. Companies including Flytrex, Wing, and DoorDash are currently operating in the region, with more than 100 local restaurants expected to participate in drone-based delivery.

Flytrex, a Tel Aviv-based company, is implementing a system that utilizes rooftop takeoff and landing docks at participating restaurants. This setup, currently used by establishments such as Capriotti’s in the Frisco and Little Elm area, allows restaurant staff to quickly attach orders to drones without touching the aircraft.

The company claims this technology can reduce delivery costs by 60% and increase speed by using predictive AI modeling to stage drones at restaurants before orders are even placed. While the technology offers potential benefits like bypassing traffic and ensuring hotter food, it also raises questions regarding the impact on traditional delivery drivers and the logistics of the final delivery drop.
