FM Yume Wave implements AI for automated traffic reports

Community radio station FM Yume Wave is implementing artificial intelligence to automate 24-hour traffic information broadcasts. Traditionally, the station relied on live phone calls to specialists, which limited coverage to live broadcast windows and prevented updates during late-night hours or sudden disasters.

To solve this, the station is using Google’s Gemini AI to bridge the gap between raw traffic data and broadcast-ready scripts. The process involves using AI to write scripts from web-based data and then using speech synthesis to deliver the information.

Rather than viewing the initial technical errors—such as inconsistent pacing or incorrect pronunciation—as failures, the station staff treated the AI like a novice radio personality. By applying standard training principles, such as standardizing opening and closing remarks and instructing the AI to omit repetitive location names, they have worked to refine the automated system for better listener clarity.
