FMCSA completes nationwide overhaul of DataQs safety data system

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) has completed a nationwide overhaul of the DataQs system, a process used by commercial drivers and motor carriers to dispute safety data. Now implemented across all 50 states, Washington, D.C., and U.S. territories, the reformed system introduces a multi-stage independent review process to ensure data accuracy and prevent bias in roadside enforcement records.

The new framework establishes strict performance timelines: 21 days for initial and reconsideration reviews, and 45 days for final decisions. These reforms, part of the U.S. Department of Transportation’s ‘Pro-Trucker Package,’ aim to reduce administrative backlogs and improve the integrity of safety data that impacts carrier CSA scores.

Separately, the FMCSA is reviewing comments regarding a proposed rule on English Language Proficiency (ELP). While most feedback supports codifying current regulations, the Sikh Coalition has expressed concerns regarding the potential for discrimination during enforcement. The organization noted that while English proficiency is a safety necessity, steps must be taken to mitigate discriminatory practices against Sikh drivers.
