FMCSA revokes five ELDs, gives truckers 60‑day deadline to replace devices

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) removed five electronic logging devices (ELDs) from its list of approved devices on August 6, 2026. The revoked models – MOONLIGHT ELD (UZB2USA INC), HGRS ELD and HIGHEST ELD (both HGRS), TRUCKFORD ELD (Truckford ELD), and Sparkle ELD (Spark Technologies Inc.) – must be discontinued by carriers. Drivers have a 60‑day window, until October 6, 2026, to replace the devices with compliant alternatives; after that date, use of the revoked ELDs will result in “No record of duty status” citations and out‑of‑service orders. FMCSA Administrator Derek D. Barrs emphasized the agency’s commitment to accurate, reliable hours‑of‑service records and road safety.

The revocation is part of a broader wave of FMCSA regulatory changes aimed at tightening compliance, modernizing data collection, and improving highway safety. Recent initiatives have focused on stricter CDL verification, enhanced carrier safety accountability, expanded roadside inspections, and greater use of digital monitoring technologies.
