FMDQ Exchange turnover reaches N426.51 trillion in first seven months of 2026
Trading activity on the FMDQ Exchange saw significant growth in 2026, with seven-month turnover reaching N426.51 trillion between January and July. This represents a substantial increase from the N249.18 trillion recorded in the first four months of the year.
In July 2026 alone, secondary market turnover rose by 41.23 percent month-on-month to N63.64 trillion. The Spot FX Market turnover for July was $18.23 billion (N25.04 trillion), a 41.64 percent increase from June. The Derivatives Market also saw growth, with FX market segment turnover rising 58.01 percent month-on-month to $2.43 billion.
Foreign exchange transactions remain a primary driver of activity, accounting for N143.34 trillion (33.6 percent) of the seven-month turnover. Open Market Operations (OMO) bills followed with N126.35 trillion in turnover. Government debt instruments, including Treasury bills, FGN Bonds, and Sukuk, collectively generated approximately N202.55 trillion, representing 47.5 percent of total FMDQ turnover.
