El Salvador’s two traditional opposition parties have formally selected their presidential nominees for the February 2027 election. Incumbent President Nayib Bukele, who was re‑elected in 2024, is running for a third consecutive term after a 2021 constitutional reform—passed by the legislature controlled by his Nuevas Ideas party—removed the presidential runoff, extended terms and made indefinite re‑election possible.
