Fénix Novohispano launches play about Empress Carlota
The theater company Fénix Novohispano officially launched its production, ‘La Roja. Carlota, Emperatriz de México’, during the Noche de Museos event at the Casona de Xicoténcatl. Directed by Francisco Hernández, the play offers an intimate portrayal of Empress Carlota, focusing on her life during the Second Mexican Empire from 1864 to 1867.
Lead actress Nallely Acevedo performed the role, depicting Carlota’s journey from France to Mexico and her time in Rome. The performance was accompanied by mezzosoprano Gerardina Martínez Félix, who provided operatic melodies by Giuseppe Verdi and traditional songs such as ‘Llorona’. The historic setting of the former Senate headquarters provided the backdrop for the production, which was attended by approximately 250 people.
