FNSS unveils U-MAV unmanned amphibious assault vehicle

Turkish defense manufacturer FNSS has unveiled the U-MAV, an 8-ton multi-purpose unmanned amphibious assault vehicle (AAV). Debuting at TEKNOFEST Mavi Vatan 2026, the platform is designed to operate in coordination with manned naval infantry units.

The vehicle is intended to lead first-wave amphibious assaults, engaging coastal defenses and clearing mines or obstacles to prepare beaches for manned elements. By utilizing autonomous, remote-controlled, or hybrid modes, the U-MAV aims to remove personnel from high-risk initial contact phases. It can achieve a swimming speed of seven knots and a road speed of 70 km/h.

A key feature of the U-MAV is its modular architecture, which allows for interchangeable mission modules to be swapped in the field in approximately 40 minutes. Defined configurations include fire support, mine clearance, combat engineering, electronic warfare, logistics support, and casualty evacuation. FNSS CEO Selim Baybaş noted that the company is among a small number of NATO suppliers capable of producing an unmanned amphibious vehicle of this scale.
