Fofi Gennimata memorial held five years after her death
A memorial service was held at the First Cemetery of Athens to honor the memory of former PASOK President Fofi Gennimata, marking five years since her passing on October 25, 2021. The event was attended by her husband, Andreas Tsounis, her children, and numerous political figures, including the current PASOK leader, Nikos Androulakis.
During the service, Gennimata's son, Giorgos Gennimatas-Tsounis, spoke emotionally about his mother, stating that she provided substantive meaning to three core values: “humanity, ethics, and dignity.” He noted that her example in both politics and life remains an indelible legacy for their family.
Nikos Androulakis also paid tribute, noting that Gennimata's “creative stubbornness” was instrumental in keeping PASOK upright during a period of deep crisis and laid the groundwork for the party's current political position. Gennimata, who passed away at age 56 following a battle with breast cancer, is remembered for her efforts to reunify the center-left in Greece.
