Matt Fitzpatrick and Michael Thorbjornsen lead Scottish Open after fog delays

The third round of the Genesis Scottish Open at The Renaissance Club in North Berwick was halted twice on Saturday due to a thick sea‑fog (haar). Play stopped at 10:45 a.m., resumed at 1:10 p.m., and was suspended again around 7:55 p.m. because visibility deteriorated.

England’s Matt Fitzpatrick and U.S. player Michael Thorbjornsen emerged as joint leaders, both sitting at 11‑under after incomplete rounds (Fitzpatrick eight holes, Thorbjornsen thirteen). American Johnny Keefer posted a clubhouse lead of 10‑under after a six‑under 64, saying, “the mindset this week that anything can change.”

World No. 2 Rory McIlroy struggled, recording three bogeys to fall to six‑under, five shots off the lead. Other players at 10‑under include defending champion Chris Gotterup, U.S. Open champion Wyndham Clark, Min Woo Lee, Jordan Smith and Kevin Roy. Several of these are vying for three remaining spots in next week’s British Open.

The DP World Tour‑PGA co‑sanctioned event, with a $9 million prize fund, will resume the third round at 7 a.m. on Sunday, with the final round to follow later that day before the Open Championship at Royal Birkdale.
