Foggia authorities investigate death of migrant worker near Mezzanone

Authorities in Foggia have opened a homicide investigation following the discovery of the body of Sadam Houssain, a 32-year-old migrant worker. Houssain’s body was found in the trunk of his car near the Mezzanone ghetto, an area where thousands of seasonal workers live in overcrowded conditions during the tomato harvest.

Houssain had been missing since August 4. His body was found in an advanced state of decomposition. The Prosecutor's Office of Foggia is coordinating with the Carabinieri to determine the cause of death, though no suspects have been identified at this stage.

Colleagues reported that Houssain frequently used his vehicle to transport other workers from the Mezzanone settlement to various fields in the Tavoliere region. Investigators are looking into the circumstances surrounding his disappearance and whether his activities contributed to the incident.
