Foggia’s Gino Lisa Airport faces 30% passenger drop as flights cut

Data released by Assaeroporti show that passenger traffic at Foggia’s Gino Lisa Airport fell by about 30% in the first seven months of 2026, dropping from 46,363 to 32,543 travelers. The decline mirrors a 36% reduction in flight movements, with scheduled flights falling from 894 in the same period of 2025 to 576 in 2026, mainly affecting routes to Milan, Turin and Bergamo.

Councilor Pasquale Cataneo argued that the fall is not due to lack of demand but to the cut‑back in routes and frequencies. He highlighted a load factor above 65%, respectable compared with low‑cost carriers that reach 94% and legacy airlines at 80‑84%. Cataneo and the Foggia City Council, through Deliberation No. 151/2024, called on the regional authority and the Ministry of Infrastructure to impose public‑service obligations, stabilize frequencies, and promote the airport’s offer to turn the hub into a sustainable intermodal node.

The council’s motion urges marketing, infrastructure investment and a clearer service framework to reverse the downward trend and boost passenger numbers.
