Fogo Island bus crash kills 25 people in Cape Verde

A school bus traveling for an end-of-year trip crashed down a road on Fogo Island, Cape Verde, resulting in the deaths of 25 passengers out of 39 on board. The accident occurred in the Chã das Caldeiras area within the Pico do Fogo volcano crater.

Local residents conducted initial rescue efforts at the site in Campanas de Cima, approximately 21 kilometers from São Filipe. Because specialized rescue equipment was not immediately available, community members manually retrieved victims from the ravine and transported them to safety. Witnesses described the difficult conditions and the emotional toll of the operation as they worked to assist survivors and recover the deceased.
