Fogra celebrates 75 years of media technology research
The Fogra research institute for media technologies is marking its 75th anniversary. Founded on May 9, 1951, during the first Drupa trade fair in Düsseldorf, the organization was established by 25 companies and individuals as a non-profit association to support the printing industry.
Throughout its history, the institute has operated from three different locations, beginning in Munich at the Bamberger Haus before moving to Aschheim in 1974. Over seven and a half decades, Fogra has completed 236 research projects, produced 40,472 expert reports, and hosted 654 training sessions and symposia with a total of 31,470 participants.
Early research topics included masking processes and elastic printing forms, as well as the health effects of printing dust—an area that has since evolved into modern Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) standards.
