Foley City Council approves floodplain regulations and road improvements
The Foley City Council has moved forward with two major infrastructure and safety initiatives. First, the council approved the first reading of an ordinance to update floodplain regulations. Aimed at preventing property damage from flooding, the new rules require new developments to meet specific flood elevation requirements, including a 150-foot floodway buffer. The ordinance also permits the use of stem walls in Coastal AE Flood Zones to align with residential building codes. Under these changes, appeals regarding flood damage prevention rulings will be directed to the City Council.
Additionally, the city is launching a comprehensive roadway assessment and resurfacing program. The council approved plans to resurface 6.3 miles of city streets, including sections of Park Avenue, Lakeview Drive, and West Peachtree Avenue. To guide future maintenance, Sawgrass Consulting will conduct a Pavement Condition Index (PCI) assessment covering 210 miles of municipal streets and 9 miles of alleys. This study will assign condition scores to roadways and integrate the data into a digital mapping system to track improvements over time.
