Follonica administration clashes with Forza Italia over Play Area relocation

A political dispute has emerged within the center-right majority in Follonica regarding the future of the ‘Alessio Galgani’ Play Area in the Senzuno district. The conflict pits Forza Italia against the local administration and civic lists ‘In Movimento per Follonica’ and ‘Follonica nel Cuore’.

Forza Italia has proposed relocating the facility away from Senzuno to an area near the Petraia mouth, specifically in front of the school on via Gorizia. The party suggests transforming the site into a ‘Stadio del Mare’ (Sea Stadium) equipped with stands and structures to host tournaments and events. Their proposal cites issues regarding private sector land claims and the organization of the Galgani Memorial as reasons for the move.

In response, Mayor Matteo Buoncristiani has stated that the Play Area ‘will not move a single centimeter.’ Civic groups supporting the site argue it is an invaluable social and identity-based asset for the community. They propose enhancing the space by opening it to local sports clubs for athletic training during non-bathing hours, rather than relocating it.
