Follonica Mayor defends Massa Marittima hospital against service cuts

The Mayor of Follonica, Matteo Buoncristiani, has voiced strong opposition to the reduction of emergency surgery services at the Sant’Andrea Hospital in Massa Marittima. He characterized the cuts as the culmination of years of progressive service reductions rather than an isolated incident.

Buoncristiani has called on the Tuscany Region to take full responsibility for these healthcare decisions, noting that healthcare programming falls under regional jurisdiction. He proposed the establishment of a dedicated healthcare district for the Colline Metallifere area to ensure the hospital can effectively guarantee essential services to residents in towns such as Montieri, Gavoranno, and Follonica.
