Fonacot offers low-interest loans for back-to-school expenses
The National Institute for Workers' Consumption Fund (Fonacot) is offering financing options to assist families with back-to-school expenses. According to the credit simulator from the National Commission for the Protection and Defense of Users of Financial Services (CONDUSEF), Fonacot provides some of the most affordable financing available in the market.
Key products include the Cash Credit, which features interest rates starting at 12.53 percent with repayment terms ranging from 6 to 30 months. Additionally, a specialized Credit for Women (Crédito Mujer Efectivo) is available for female heads of household, offering preferential interest rates starting from 8.9 percent. Neither product requires a guarantor or an opening commission.
Funds are deposited directly into the applicant's bank account and can be used for various purposes, including school supplies, tuition, or unforeseen expenses. So far in 2026, Fonacot has issued over 1.5 million loans totaling approximately 50 million pesos. The institution notes that all procedures are free and advises workers to avoid intermediaries to ensure financial security.
