The Fondation 30 Millions d'amis is demanding a permanent ban on puppy and kitten shows in France. The organization's president, Reha Hutin, sent a letter to Agriculture Minister Annie Genevard calling for an end to these events, arguing they prioritize impulsive sales over animal welfare.
An undercover investigation conducted between May and August documented various violations. The findings include the transport of barely weaned animals over long distances, exposure to noise and temperature fluctuations, and the systematic circumvention of legal requirements. Specifically, the foundation noted that sellers often bypass the mandatory seven-day reflection period and offer installment payment plans of up to 12 months to encourage immediate purchases.
While Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu has previously called for increased government action and stricter controls on animal fairs by October 1, the Fondation 30 Millions d'amis maintains that these measures are insufficient and that only a total ban will protect vulnerable animals.
