Fondation Charlot Jacquelin calls for national mobilization in Haiti

The Fondation Charlot Jacquelin has issued a call for national mobilization to mark the 40th anniversary of the disappearance of Charlot Jacquelin. A literacy instructor for the Misyon Alfa program, Jacquelin was arrested at his home in Cité Soleil on September 19, 1986, and subsequently disappeared.

The Foundation expressed grave concern regarding the current state of Haitian society, noting a progressive normalization of violence, kidnappings, and assassinations. The organization criticized the weakening of democratic forces and the failure of the political class to produce meaningful results, warning that the population is becoming desensitized to horror.

Specific recent incidents were cited to illustrate the ongoing crisis, including the reported kidnapping of at least five schoolchildren in Bois-Verna on September 18. The Foundation emphasized that younger generations are particularly vulnerable to the country's escalating security and institutional instability.
