Fondazione Istituto Giglio wins Best Insanitas 2026 for urology in Sicily

The urology department of the Fondazione Istituto Giglio in Cefalù has been awarded the ‘Best Insanitas 2026’ prize, recognizing it as the leading urological center in Sicily. The award was presented to Urology Director Francesco Curto during the Best Insanitas event in Campofelice di Roccella.

The facility utilizes minimally invasive and robotic techniques, including the Da Vinci robot, to treat benign and oncological prostatic pathologies. In 2025, the department performed 142 radical prostatectomies using the Da Vinci robot, 110 kidney tumor surgeries, and 316 procedures for benign prostatic hypertrophy. Additionally, the center implemented Sicily’s first robotic radical cystectomy program with totally intracorporeal urinary diversion, benefiting 24 patients.

According to Agenas national outcome programs, the Giglio urology department has maintained its position as Sicily’s top center for malignant prostate tumor treatment for seven consecutive years, and for three years for kidney tumors and benign prostatic hypertrophy. In 2025, the department discharged a total of 1,641 patients.
