Fondazione Le Monacelle ETS announces cultural exhibitions in Matera
The Fondazione Le Monacelle ETS has announced a new cultural program in Matera, Italy, featuring two distinct exhibitions that explore the historical and cultural links between Greek heritage and Southern Italy.
Starting September 4, the exhibition ‘Terra. Forma. Suono.’ will showcase the work of the Niglio family, master artisans who have preserved the tradition of the ‘cuccù’—a traditional clay whistle shaped like a rooster with the voice of a cuckoo. The exhibition highlights the artistic contributions of Giuseppe Niglio (1923–1988) and Tommaso Niglio (1927–2019), framing their craftsmanship as a family biography tied to local folk rituals and Magna Graecia history.
The program, organized in collaboration with CNA Matera and Arterìa – Associazione d’Arte e Cultura, also includes works by photographer Theodoris Theodoridis, focusing on the dialogue between classical statues and memory at the Archaeological Museum.
