Fondazione Museo della Shoah announces programs for October 16 anniversary

The Fondazione Museo della Shoah and the Jewish Community of Rome have announced a series of initiatives to commemorate the 83rd anniversary of the October 16, 1943, roundup of Rome's Jewish population. During the event, which saw over 1,000 people deported and only 16 return, officials emphasized the importance of preserving historical memory to recognize early signs of hate and delegitimization.

Programmed activities include theatrical performances, historical research, and archival exhibitions. On October 12, the production ‘Voci dalla Shoah’ will be performed at Teatro Parioli Costanzo. This will be followed by the exhibition ‘L’archivio racconta’ at Palazzo Braschi, featuring original documents from ten family collections acquired through the ‘Dalle case alla storia’ campaign.

Carola Funaro, Vice President of the Jewish Community, noted that the persecution did not begin with the deportations, but through progressive delegitimization, propaganda, and racial laws. The initiatives aim to use various cultural languages—including cinema, podcasts, and educational activities—to engage younger generations and combat rising antisemitism.
