Fondazione Pordenonelegge and Treccani release Generation Alpha dictionary

Fondazione Pordenonelegge.it and Fondazione Treccani Cultura have released the ‘Piccolo dizionario (immaginario) delle ragazze e dei ragazzi’, a project exploring the language of Generation Alpha. The initiative involved over 1,700 young people aged 11 to 13 from across Italy.

The publication features 165 definitions that capture the digital slang and emotional perspectives of the first generation born in the 21st century. Terms such as ‘aura’, ‘flexare’, ‘ghostato’, ‘cringe’, and ‘jumpscare’ are included to illustrate how youth express their fears, dreams, and social complexities. The project is part of the Pordenone 2027 Italian Capital of Culture dossier and includes participation from the Istituto Toniolo and Parole O_Stili.
