Fonderie de Bretagne faces judicial liquidation
The Fonderie de Bretagne (FDB) industrial site in Caudan, Morbihan, is facing judicial liquidation after failing to secure a new buyer. The announcement was made following a meeting of the Social and Economic Committee (CSE), where it was revealed that no takeover offers would be presented to the Lorient commercial court this Thursday.
Despite efforts from the French government and local authorities, a potential European industrial buyer withdrew its interest. According to union representative Eric Blanchier, the interested party had negotiated with the state and Renault—the company's historical founding client—but ultimately did not receive the terms it required, specifically regarding a 14 to 15-month window to establish sufficient production volumes.
The site, which employs 244 people, had been placed under judicial reorganization in early July due to insolvency. This follows its acquisition just over a year ago by Europlasma, a group specializing in decontamination and forged parts for the defense industry. Europlasma had previously committed to a 15-million-euro investment over three years to diversify production.
