Fonderie de Bretagne faces liquidation and 244 job losses

The Lorient Commercial Court has ordered the judicial liquidation of the Fonderie de Bretagne plant in Caudan, resulting in the loss of 244 jobs. The decision follows the failure of several potential takeover attempts.

In September 2026, three initial takeover offers were received, but no firm proposals were presented by the October 12 deadline. Despite efforts from the state and local authorities, including a proposed financial support package from Minister Sébastien Martin to one candidate, negotiations failed to secure a buyer. Previous attempts involving Europlasma also did not result in a successful transition.

The closure marks the end of an industrial era for the region, as the plant had been operating since 1965 and succeeded the former Forges. Local officials in Inzinzac-Lochrist have expressed solidarity with the workers and their families, calling for comprehensive support through the employment safeguard plan (PSE), including retraining, compensation, and redeployment assistance.
