Fonderie Pisano seeks regional approval for green plant reconversion
Fonderie Pisano has submitted required documentation to the Campania Region to advance its green reconversion project for the Fratte plant in Salerno. The company is seeking Integrated Environmental Authorization (AIA) to restart production following a period of inactivity.
The industrial plan focuses on decarbonization by replacing coal-fired cupola furnaces with electric induction furnaces and enhancing filtration and suction systems. The company aims to immediately utilize an existing, authorized electric furnace, which would operate at approximately 13% of previous capacity but could allow for the gradual return of 120 employees currently on standby.
CEO Ciro Pisano has urged the regional government to accelerate the approval process, warning that prolonged uncertainty threatens the foundry's survival and risks the loss of specialized workforce skills as company subsidies expire in late October. Additionally, the company has called for the reinstatement of Arpac air quality monitoring stations in the area, following the removal of a mobile unit that had been active for over a decade.
