Fonio.ai secures €14.6 million to expand AI agent services
Vienna-based AI startup Fonio.ai is expanding its operations after securing €14.6 million in funding, contributing to one of the largest seed financing rounds in Austrian startup history. The company, valued at €120 million, develops AI agents designed for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to handle customer inquiries, manage calendars, and access CRM systems.
Co-founders Daniel Keinrath and Matthias Gruber state that their technology utilizes a proprietary ‘orchestration layer’ to coordinate various AI models and databases in real-time. This approach is intended to provide faster response times and better German language comprehension compared to existing white-label solutions. The company also emphasizes data privacy, noting that all data is processed in Europe and stored on servers in Germany.
Fonio.ai plans to use the new capital to further develop its platform—which already includes WhatsApp integration—to include email and chatbot support, while also pursuing international growth. The company is also implementing a unique recruitment strategy that prioritizes hiring former founders over traditional managers.
