Fonplata to fund $75 million in Bolivian road works
The Bolivian Road Administrator (ABC) will execute more than 50 road rehabilitation and conservation projects across the country, funded by a $75 million loan from the Financial Fund for the Development of the Plata Basin (Fonplata). The National Emergency Program for Road Rehabilitation and Conservation includes 42 rehabilitation works, 11 conservation projects, and one major rehabilitation intervention.
The program aims to ensure road connectivity and reduce vulnerability to extreme weather events, such as intense rains and prolonged droughts, forecasted for 2026 and 2027. The works involve repairing pavements, rehabilitating bridges, and addressing critical sectors affected by geological faults. These interventions are vital for Bolivia’s foreign trade, as the landlocked nation relies heavily on its road network to transport exports.
Projects are distributed across nine departments. Key interventions include pavement rehabilitation in Potosí, La Paz, Cochabamba, and Chuquisaca, as well as structural improvements to bridges and roads in the eastern regions of Pando, Beni, and Santa Cruz. According to Fonplata, the evaluated works will benefit approximately 60,700 vehicles and 182,100 people daily.
