Fontaines D.C. frontman denounces unauthorized AI use in music video

Fontaines D.C. frontman Grian Chatten has expressed shock and opposition following the discovery that artificial intelligence was used in the music video for the single ‘Marianne’. Despite the project involving over 100 people, Chatten stated that neither the band, their management, nor their label were informed of the AI's involvement in the VFX workflow.

Chatten described the situation as “fucking ironic” and “contradictory,” noting that their fifth studio album, ‘Dopamine Chamber’, explores themes of isolation and increasing technological dependence. He criticized the technology's impact on creativity, stating, “AI is literally rendering our souls obsolete and I think that is true death.”

In response to the incident, the band is implementing contractual clauses to prohibit the use of AI in their future music videos. The album ‘Dopamine Chamber’ features a collaboration with Rosalía on the track ‘Where Is Gone?’ and has received critical acclaim for its cinematic sound.
