Food Chemists warn of inspection gaps in German restaurants

The Federal Association of Food Chemists in the Public Service is warning against potential gaps in food safety inspections across Germany. During a meeting in Potsdam, the association emphasized the necessity of uniform risk assessment standards across all federal states to ensure consistent inspection frequencies for restaurants and snack bars.

Birgit Bienzle, president of the association, cautioned that removing specific guidelines for risk assessment and sampling could compromise both the quality and quantity of inspections. She further warned that consumer protection standards must not be reduced in response to budget constraints facing various local districts.

In addition to food monitoring, the association's laboratory work involves testing consumer-related products such as cosmetics, tableware, clothing, toys, and tobacco products.
