Food insecurity and economic crisis reported in Argentina
Reports from Argentina highlight a deepening social and food emergency in the provinces of Chaco and Santa Fe.
In the Gran Resistencia area of Chaco, a survey by the Institute for Social, Economic, and Political Research (Isepci) found that 83.1% of households struggle to make ends meet. The study reveals that 76.9% of households have had to forgo meat, dairy, or fruit due to lack of funds, and 74.9% have skipped meals. Economic instability is driven by a lack of formal employment, affecting 60.9% of households, with many surviving on informal daily labor or facing unemployment.
Similarly, in Santa Fe, the Los Sin Techo movement has warned of rising demand for food assistance. The organization reports that the decline in informal work and loss of family income has forced more families, including elderly citizens, to rely on community kitchens and soup kitchens. Local coordinators state that current provincial and national government aid is insufficient to meet the growing desperation for solid food.
