Food insecurity rises across U.S. regions amid inflation

Food insecurity is rising across several U.S. regions as inflation and economic pressures strain household budgets.

In Los Angeles County, the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank reported that in the first eight months of 2026, it distributed 103 million pounds of food, a slight increase over the previous year. Sustained inflation, including rising fuel costs, continues to impact local communities.

In South Florida, Feeding South Florida has seen a nearly 29% increase in recipient registrations since 2024. The organization currently assists 1.8 million people, citing rising costs for diesel and food, as well as government shutdowns, as primary drivers for the increased demand.

In Palm Beach County, Florida, CROS Ministries reports that more than 200,000 people lack sufficient food. The nonprofit is organizing the Hustle to End Hunger 5K in October to raise funds for food assistance programs in Palm Beach and Martin counties.
