Food Lion expands in Georgia and South Carolina via acquisitions
Food Lion is expanding its presence in the greater Greenville market through the acquisition of former Dill's Food City and Bi-Lo locations.
A new Food Lion store is opening in Lavonia, Georgia, on October 14 at the site of the former Dill's Food City. This transition marks the end of a 91-year legacy for the Dilworth family, who built the original grocery business. The family noted that the sale was encouraged by Anderson Dilworth prior to his passing in June. Additionally, a new Food Lion is planned for Royston, Georgia, to replace a Dill's Food City location that burned down in February 2024.
In South Carolina, Food Lion will open a renovated store in Greenville on October 21, having purchased a former Bi-Lo location. These openings are part of a broader expansion strategy, with 10 new Food Lion locations scheduled to open in 2026. The new stores feature modern layouts, self-checkout lanes, and various meal solutions, including organic and plant-based options.
