Food management and budgeting strategies for households
Strategies for managing food costs and time efficiency are becoming increasingly relevant for households. Preparing breakfasts and snacks in advance using jars can save time and help organize individual portions for work, school, or the gym. These methods often utilize economical ingredients such as oats, yogurt, fruit, and seeds.
Regarding household spending, data from the INE Family Budget Survey indicates that Spanish households spent an average of 5,626 euros on food and non-alcoholic beverages in 2025, a 4.4% increase from the previous year. Experts suggest that the financial strain often comes from unplanned, urgent purchases made due to hunger or lack of time rather than the use of prepared meals itself. To manage costs, it is recommended to calculate the weekly total of quick solutions—including snacks, drinks, and deliveries—and to incorporate some prepared products into a planned weekly shopping list to avoid impulsive spending.
