Food poisoning affects 159 students and staff at Perak boarding school

A total of 159 students and staff members at a boarding school in the Lenggong district of Perak experienced food poisoning symptoms. The incident is believed to have been caused by food provided by an external caterer during a school program held on September 9.

Victims, aged between 13 and 52, reported symptoms including diarrhea, stomach aches, headaches, nausea, vomiting, and fever. While most received treatment at the school from a medical team from the Lenggong Health Clinic, 10 individuals required further treatment at the clinic. All victims are reported to be in stable condition, and none required hospitalization.

Health authorities have collected 34 clinical samples, 14 environmental samples, and one food sample for analysis at the Ipoh Public Health Laboratory. Following an inspection, the Hulu Perak District Health Office found the catering premises had a rating of 78.16 percent and has issued a closure order for the facility.
