Ankara court fraud scheme uncovered

In the cafeteria of Ankara's main courthouse, a suspect claiming to be a "kalem müdürü" offered to postpone a prisoner's execution for 100,000 Turkish lira. The conversation was overheard by a Republic Prosecutor, who alerted police. Officers intercepted the two suspects, identified as G. Ş. and C. K., and placed them under arrest on charges of attempted qualified fraud. Both were later released under judicial control with a travel ban.

Investigations revealed that G. Ş. holds seventeen prior criminal records, including open‑theft, burglary, fraud, property damage and pickpocketing. The case is being pursued by Turkish authorities.

The incident highlights ongoing concerns about corruption attempts within the justice system and the vigilance of prosecutorial staff in preventing fraudulent schemes.
