Food prices remain high in Tlaxcala and Toluca despite low inflation

While Tlaxcala recorded the lowest annual inflation rate in Mexico at 1.2% for August, specific food and service costs continue to exert pressure on household budgets. According to INEGI, high price variations in essential goods such as onion (up 32.70%), serrano chili (up 19.61%), and lemon (up 11.17%) offset the benefits of the low general inflation average.

In Toluca, market vendors report that prices for various vegetables and basic goods remain high ahead of the September national holidays. Increased demand from the food service sector is expected to sustain these price levels. Specific items like chicken, avocado, and tomato have seen recent fluctuations or stability at elevated rates, impacting the cost of the basic food basket.
