Food prices rise in Kédougou and Conakry due to shortages

Food prices are rising in parts of West Africa, affecting both consumers and vendors in Senegal and Guinea.

In Kédougou, Senegal, onion prices have increased significantly. A bag of onions that previously cost approximately 11,500 F CFA is now being sold for 15,000 F CFA. Retail prices have also climbed, with the price per kilogram ranging between 850 F CFA and 1,000 F CFA. This shortage is impacting the preparation of traditional dishes and forcing traders to prioritize retail sales to manage limited stocks.

In Conakry, Guinea, the price of fish has also risen due to decreased availability. Local vendors report that the fishing port's closure and the inactivity of certain fishing boats have limited the supply. This scarcity has forced households to adjust their food purchases and has reduced profit margins for market sellers, who are awaiting a potential resumption of fishing activities in September.
